Natural Helpers are those that are here to listen, support, and guide their friends + neighbors as they navigate life in Maine. As community leaders, they use their own experiences to build connections and help others find their way. They are the trusted neighbors, the cultural bridges, the resource connectors who understand their communities from within. Natural Helpers transform personal experience into community strength.
Natural Helpers are people helping people, one connection at a time.
Who is a Natural Helper?
Program Components
-
Fellows learn directly from nonprofit, business, and government leaders about available community resources, while offering insight into how those resources are experienced on the ground.
-
Through group discussions, a shared WhatsApp thread, and facilitated programming designed to deepen relationships, fellows build an internal network of support across communities.
-
Each Fellow is matched with an experienced organizational leader who offers personalized support and reflection throughout the program.
-
From concerts to horseback riding, fellows are invited to participate in immersive experiences often out of reach for marginalized communities, building joy, belonging, and a deeper connection to Maine.
-
Fellows work in pairs to research and present issues affecting their communities to their local city council. By offering grounded, community-based solutions, they practice advocacy and civic engagement in real time.
-
Fellows have access to up to $1,000 to support community projects or personal development. Whether hosting events or pursuing training, they choose how best to serve the needs they see around them.
