Welcoming Week 2020: A Recap
RETURN TO RECIPES FOR WELCOMING HOME PAGE
OUR GOAL
The goal of Recipes for Welcoming was to engage the entire community in celebrating Welcoming Week, including those who are food secure and non, those who have been living here for decades, and those who have only been here for a short while. Additionally, we hoped to raise awareness of the food system here in Portland and have people learn about Wayside Food Programs. Lastly, we wanted to shine a spotlight on some immigrant-owned businesses here in Portland who contribute to our city in such a delicious way!.
Where did the meal kits go?
Meal kits were distributed via Wayside and OEO at various locations and to community partners including:
Portland Housing Authority (Sagamore, Riverton, North Deering, Washington Gardens, & Kennedy Park)
Root Cellar/Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Association
THE NUMBERS
144 individuals pre-registered for a meal kit. 383 meal kits were distributed within the food security system across the city. 6,462 community members were reached via social media about the event. The live cooking events with the local chefs reached 958 views total.
On meal kit pickup day on September 14th, participants arrived with masks on outside and were welcomed to Wayside with international music playing, fun décor, and goodies. Participants also had the option to participate in a raffle, with all the proceeds going to Wayside Food programs. A total of $948.46 was raised to support their ongoing programming and efforts to ensure that all Portlanders have access to nutritious food.
Why do you belong in Portland?
